CHILDREN

Children express themselves differently than adults and often do not have the words to express themselves. We often look at their behavior to understand how they are feeling. They may act out, hide, hit, cry, or, run away. Teachers may report reduced academic performance or various disruptive behaviors in the classroom. My focus is to support and develop children's ability to explore and express their feelings, and find ways to cope and manage them.
Play Therapy, Children, Austin, Texas, Colleen Bardelli
Play is the language of children; therefore I offer a variety of play-based interventions. My approach with children is child-centered. The child guides the session and decides how they want to spend it.  In my office you will find a sandtray, toys, and art supplies. Each is a tool for the child to use.

Though the child guides the session, I meet frequently with parents to provide feedback and support, so the child can continue to build social and emotional skills, and improve their coping skills. I also offer school consultations to support skill development. Collaboration with other providers is welcome and encouraged when appropriate.

I have had success working with children and their families to develop healthier ways to emote, connect, and improve self-esteem.
